Candle Care 101 - Part I

As I started my candle making adventure, I realized how important caring for your candles is.  Below are a few things you need to do to properly care for you candle that first keeps you safe and second, extends the life of your candle.

If you don’t let the melted wax pool reach the edge of the container on your first burn, you run the risk of causing the candle to tunnel.  This means your candle could  continue to burn down to the bottom while not using all of the wax in the jar.  It essentially creates a hole down through the candle.  This could cause the candle to put itself out and quickly shortens the life of your candle.  I work to craft wonderful scents and want my customers to enjoy every last bit of their candle.

Another must-do item is to keep your wick trimmed to 1/4 of an inch, even while it is burning.  Keeping the wick trimmed to 1/4 of an inch will provide for a safe, controlled burn.  If you do not trim the wick, the flame can grow too tall and result in the container becoming very hot to the touch.  Please remember to not touch a candle container while it is burning or if you have to move it, pick up the container toward the bottom where the wax is not melted, or use something heat resistant to move it such as an oven mitt.  Stay tuned for more tips!
